![]() Darien YMCA Summer CampsThe Darien YMCA Summer Day Camp offers a variety of programs to meet the needs of various age groups and the interests of all it’s participants. Our Pre-School Camp activities are held at the YMCA site. The School-Age Camp is located at one of the local elementary schools and children are shuttled to the YMCA for various activities. Afternoon Navigators is offered as an extension to the Gymnastics Camp, as well as a great program for children attending Summer School and children who are interested in just an afternoon program.
![]() The Darien YMCA Camp Staff believe that each summer activity not only teaches skills, but also teaches caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility; all values of the YMCA. The camp is organized and run by Darien YMCA professional directors. Summer staff members are carefully selected on the basis of their experience, qualifications and caring for children. About School Age CampSuper Camp Must have completed Kindergarten or 1st Grade Camp activities are designed to introduce campers to many activities mentioned above. In each session, children will also participate in a beach trip and local field trip. Camp fees and times. Explorer Camp Must have completed 2nd or 3rd Grade In Explorers, campers grow in confidence as they develop the camp skills along with their age group. In addition to the daily camp activities, children will participate in a beach trip and field trip per session. Camp fees and times. Adventure Camp Must have completed 4th or 5th Grade In Adventure Camp, campers enjoy the many typical camp activities, while strengthening their independence. Besides the beach trip and field trip, Adventure Campers will also go on a sports trip per session. Camp fees and times. Pioneers Camp Must have completed 6th or 7th Grade This program is designed for older children. Because the needs and interests of children this age are changing, we’ve designed this program with this in mind. Each two week session has a theme and the daily schedule includes traditional camp activities, specialized group activities and theme based field trips. Each session also includes one overnight. Camp fees and times. Counselors in Training Must have completed 8th, 9th or 10th Grade All interested C.I.T.’s must apply for a position in our camp program. Applications will be reviewed by the Camp Director and C.I.T. Coordinator and interviews will be scheduled. Chosen C.I.T.’s will work with groups of all ages and will participate in assigned group field trips. They will also be trained in First Aid/CPR and Child Abuse. Applications can be picked up at the YMCA front desk and must be returned by March 1, 2011. Camp fees and times. Afternoon Navigators Ages 5 - 10 Must have completed Kindergarten Do you want to participate in the Gymnastics Camp but need a full day? Or does your child attend Summer School in the morning and wants a camp program in the afternoon? Or is a full day camp too much for your child and you’d prefer a ½ day program? If you answered YES to any of the above, the Darien YMCA has a program for you. On Mondays & Wednesdays, campers will come to our camp, which is held at a local elementary school (TBD) and will participate in sports, arts & crafts and group games. They will then be bussed to the YMCA to end their day at 3:30. On Tuesdays & Thursdays, campers will come to the YMCA for swimming and sailing/canoeing. And on Friday, campers will meet at the local elementary school (TBD) and then head off on a field trip or special event and will return to the YMCA. If your child attends the Gymnastics Camp, transportation will be provided at 12:45 from the Gymnastics Center to the above locations. Camp fees and times. Swim and Sail Camp for Special Needs Children The Y’s camp sailing staff and special challenges aides will be conducting and facilitating this program which includes social skills and development.
